In my own Christian walk I see the need for the spiritual disciplines, which are things like Scripture reading, study and mediation. when I’m not in the word, I am more prone to make fleshly decisions rather than choosing God’s way. When I am in the word I am constantly being fed with truth and upon studying and mediating on that truth my moral code is being formed by God. Spiritual disciplines are not easy things to master hence the term disciplines. It’s going to take motivation and crucifying the flesh to make these work. In the words of John Erickson "set a time, find a place and open the word…. allow God to transform your heart and mind." I agree with that statement if we neglect reading God’s word which in his instruction to us how are we supposed to grow.
